When I think of past issues of Atlantis, I don’t remember the amount of copies we printed or the awards we won. I think about music recommendations from my staff at our meetings. I think about first-time readers who shared their work at our open mics. I think about the life-long friends I’ve made through this group, and the numerous artists with whom I’ve connected.
As artists, society tells us to aim for individual recognition and notoriety; however, I wonder if we should apply a more communal approach to success. After all, art is inherently a form of rebellion, so why should we measure its success according to the commercial status quo?
